About The Founder – Matt Smith, CPA, CA, CMA

Ok let’s get the credentials out of the way first! – Graduated from Western University with a Bachelors of Administrative and Commercial Studies majoring in Finance & Administration – Diploma in Accounting from Western University – Certified Management Accountant (CMA, 2012) – Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, 2014) – Chartered Accountant (CA, 2015) Matt’s accounting career has spanned more than 10 years and allowed him exposure to many facets of the business world. He spent the first 5 years of his career in Public Accounting specializing in accounting, auditing and personal & corporate tax and serving small to mid-sized private enterprises as well as individuals. The next 6 years were spent in senior accounting, consulting & management roles in mid-to-large corporations in the private and public sectors. In 2015, Matt decided to follow his entrepreneurial passion and form MGS Professional Corporation. With this business he can apply all the skills he has developed working mainly with small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Hi, I’m Matt, an entrepreneurial CPA with a passion for helping people. While accounting is an important part of what I do, in my spare time I can be found playing baseball, hiking, reading or working on my other passion projects. I live in Guelph, Ontario, and while I didn’t grow up here, I have developed a love for this town and the amazing people and businesses. I shop and support local as much as possible and can be found most Saturdays at the farmers market or community garden. I would love to hear more about you, your business and what I can do to help!
